How to get your home ready quickly when selling
How to get your home ready quickly when selling A scheduled 'open house' is an ideal way to show a home in its best condition. Sometimes however, prospective buyers offer little notice before requesting a visit, says Patricia Verge, president of the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA). “Sellers need to be prepared to welcome potential buyers at any time, sometimes even at mealtime.”

For those unexpected showings, Verge offers these tips to get ready at the last minute:

• Sights – Make sure beds are made, fresh towels are laid out, the kitchen sink is free of dishes, closet doors are closed, dirty laundry is out of site, the toilet lids are down and valuables are locked away.

• Sounds – Turn off all televisions and radios.

• Smells – Freshen up the air by opening up all the windows and doors, not by using strong air fresheners.

• Finishing touches – Turn on all of the lights, open all drapes and blinds to let in light.
